    God is a Refuge for Us

    Psalm 62:8 (ESV)

    Stress is a reality of life.  Multiple studies detail the emotional, physical, psychological and spiritual impacts of stress.  Everything from business meetings to interpersonal communication is affected by stress.  Hundreds of articles spanning multiple disciplines are devoted to helping people deal with and overcome the detrimental effects of stress.

    Stress cannot be avoided, but the Bible gives wise counsel for God’s children to remember.  Psalm 62:8 (ESV) says:

    Trust in him at all times, O people;

    pour out your heart before him;

    God is a refuge for us.

     When someone is stressed, the three most common forms of reaction are summarized as: fight, flight, or freeze.  The Bible, however, teaches God’s children to:

    • Trust in him at all times.  Whatever you are facing today, remember to put your trust in God.
    • Pour out your heart before him.  Tell God all of your concerns today.
    • Remember:  God is a refuge for us.  God is your safe place.  You can always run to him in times of need.

    Everyone encounters stress, it is a reality of life.  God’s children are not immune or exempted from stress.  But, God’s children are given practical helps to aid them in overcoming the stresses they face.
